Talia Lazette
Being an IB student, with a full range of extracurriculair activity, a part-time job, and volunteer work, I burn out and become stressed out fairly easily. All of these and many of my engagements can sometimes become immensely over whelming and cause me to have low level depressive symptoms, getting me to become unmotivated and have poor concentrations in whatever I'm working at. In all of this, I have seen how important my mental wellbeing is and how it plays a big role in my studies. Learning about it, I have researched techniques and routines of care for oneself that can enable me to manage my stress and prioritize my mental wellbeing, balancing them out in a way to prevent burnout and strain in my feelings.

"Participating in sports has long been a healthy outlet for me, but I have seen firsthand how overwhelming it can become when added with school pressures. Depressive symptoms such as lack of motivation and exhaustion can begin creeping in when school, sports, and life become unbalanced. For me, ongoing activity in a sport has helped me level out these feelings. Exercise helps me blow off steam and maintain level-headed thinking, but I have also learned that it’s important to admit when I'm not in a healthy mental state and seek out help. Sports have helped me build a strong will, but taking care of my mental state has become a key part of my success in and out of competition."
